Approaching Common Challenges

We have developed an in-depth collection of common preservation challenges and guidance for how to approach them. Topics: Demolition by Neglect, Preserving Family Properties, Organizations at Crossroads, Organizing to Save Places, Selecting Your Historic Building Team. Additionally, we have a large compilation of resources for conducting research and learning more about buildings, history, and preservation.

CPR For Historic Places

Our Community Preservation Response (CPR) program is central to our mission. It is the direct avenue for contacting us for assistance with any preservation challenges you or your community may face.

Working with Historic Buildings

This is a compilation of articles, videos, and how-to resources to assist owners of historic properties with common-sense preservation approaches to repairs and maintenance. As new resources are added, we will include them in our e-newsletter, so sign up for Around the Block to keep up-to-date.

Preservation Services Directory

This list represents businesses who are current paid members of Preserve Rhode Island and who have affirmed their interest and experience in historic preservation and related fields. If you choose to retain their services, we strongly recommend you request a list of recent references. Preserve Rhode Island does not endorse any of the businesses listed in this Directory.

Effective Communication for Preservationists

To help organizations and individuals assure wide support for their projects, The National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC), has introduced a detailed guide to effectively convey the role historic preservation plays in the life and strength of our communities.
