Interning at the Lippitt House
During the summer of 2019, I worked as an intern in the archives at the Lippitt House. I quite enjoyed the experience; through reading older documents and files about the museum, I gained a better understanding of how small house museums work. Lippitt House Museum was formed when the descendants of Henry Lippitt donated the house to Preserve Rhode Island. Mapping a New Vision for Docent Tours
Lippitt House is pretty much as new as museums get. It opened its doors as a museum in 1993 and only hired its first director in 2013. One of the first things we had to tackle is the program most traditionally associated with any historic site: the docent-led tour. As a staff, we began by talking about our vision for tours.
