An important part of our mission is serving as good stewards of our historic properties. Earlier this year, we reported on work being done at the historic 1890 Chase Farmhouse. So far this summer, we have made masonry repairs to the foundation, added structural support in the basement, and restored the first-floor windows. This work is being completed under our Curatorship Agreement with the Town of Lincoln. The agreement was recently extended for an additional 10 years. With work on the second-floor windows underway, Chase Farmhouse will soon complete its summer “glow-up.”

Our other properties at Preserve RI have undergone regular summer maintenance as well. At Lippitt House, work has primarily revolved around the exterior. Whether it’s the fountain, which requires weekly attention to ensure its pristine condition, or the never-ending battle with keeping the stone retaining wall free of moss, something always requires attention.

With the heat this summer, maintaining the landscaping has proven to be a challenge at Dexter House, our headquarters. Fortunately, for the staff, the building’s central air system has been carefully maintained. Our property manager, Mat, is working on plans to shore up the fence at Dexter in 2026.
