The Association for Preservation Technology (APT) held their annual conference in Providence last week, spanning from Monday to Saturday. It was titled “Revolution & Innovation: The Power of Water, Craft, & Architecture” and brought over 400 historic preservation professionals in architecture and engineering to Rhode Island. Programs comprised of field sessions throughout Providence, Wickford, and Newport. There were hands-on workshops focusing on the building trades and presentations covering various preservation topics related to building science, traditional crafts, and the environment.

Last year, Preserve RI’s Director of Preservation Paul Trudeau was asked to serve on APT’s Local Conference Committee to help with on-the-ground logistics and to propose field sessions for the conference. Two field sessions were agreed upon, including a visit to historic libraries and a tour of Preserve RI’s iconic Lippitt House Museum, led by Museum Director Cathy Saunders and Corrie de Boer of Haynes / de Boer Architecture + Preservation. The tour included a history of the house discussing its importance to Providence’s social and cultural history along with a discussion of upcoming projects. We were proud to introduce Lippitt House to new visitors from across the country and showcase the building as part of APT’s annual conference!
