Celebrating historic architecture, local heroes, and special places!
On September 28th Preserve Rhode Island joined with partner Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission to honor the people who make a difference by protecting Rhode Island’s historic places. Friends and colleagues from around the state mingled at this annual gathering which brought Rhode Island’s community leaders, business people, and homeowners, together with preservationists, industry professionals and craftspeople.
Built during the "Golden Years" of Senator Nelson W. Aldrich, Aldrich Mansion’s construction began in 1896 and was overseen by the New York firm of Carrere & Hastings. Nearly two hundred craftsmen, many of whom were dispatched from Europe, were commissioned to create this dynamic structure. Some sixteen years later, the seventy-room Mansion, once known as Indian Oaks, was completed.
