ANNUAL FUND

You provide vital funding for advocacy, leadership, innovation and action for the challenges that lie ahead

The Parsonage, Little Compton. We helped secure the future of this National Register property by negotiating a Preservation Easement before it was sold.

Historic preservation takes vigilance and vision. It takes planning and preparation to be ready for when the next crisis hits. It takes sensible local zoning laws that protect historic neighborhoods and provide waiting periods before demolition. It takes incentives for developers like State Historic Tax Credits. It takes programs that help owners of historic buildings by providing advice and resources. It takes a community of supporters like YOU!

For over 60 years, Preserve Rhode Island has been at the forefront in protecting historic places that matter to all Rhode Islanders. Utilizing our historic assets also solves present day challenges by building affordable housing, revitalizing neighborhoods, and protecting local environments.

Will you JOIN US in protecting our historic places?

Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, East Providence, is completing exterior restoration with the help of a 1772 Grant we awarded earlier this year.

Broadmoor, Narragansett, required moving two houses in order to save it. The idea was supported and advocated for as part of our CPR (Community Preservation Response) Program.

Paragon Mill, Providence, was transformed into 101 affordable housing units, thanks to the replenishment of State Historic Tax Credits, one of our key advocacy efforts.

More work needs to be done— before it’s too late.

While we have many successes to celebrate, too many of our historic buildings have been lost or are in danger.

Read-Ott, Pawtucket, is in peril of being demolished. We are scoping options and alternatives with the town as they invoke a six-month delay.

Belton Court, Barrington, has been in danger for many years due to “demolition by neglect” and recent proposals for outright demolition. This threatened property remains on our watch list.

Ferry Road, Bristol, was demolished last year, despite the best efforts of Preserve RI, local advocates, and the town. We continue to encourage towns to adopt rules for waiting periods and other tools to protect our treasured buildings.

Support Preserve RI
