Tools for Preservation

The skills needed and tools available to protect unique places and historic structures are varied. No one person can possibly be the expert in all the disciplines that successful preservation projects call upon. At various times, the protection of special places requires knowledge of planning and zoning issues, building technology, archaeology, architecture, property management, land conservation techniques, preservation regulatory processes, community organizing, political strategy, and the list goes on. This tool box is designed to make matches between preservation needs and expertise. The tool box is a gateway to reliable information to answer particular preservation challenges.

Connecting you to...

Preservation issues are rarely simple. In fact, most preservation success stories have been developed through collaborations, partnerships, further learning and friendships. Part of PRI's vision is to create an easily accessible web of community and technical networks involved in preserving and enhancing Rhode Island's historic and natural assets.

Our list of Preservation & Conservation Organizations continues to grow as Preserve Rhode Island makes connections through assisting the community with projects and issues statewide. These lists are our partners and friends in the effort to preserve our heritage and maintain open space.

Area Conferences and Workshops help us all stay informed and up-to date on evolving issues and methodologies; we list them here for you in the hopes that you will join us. PRI is here to connect you to the resources you need so that each of us can have a greater role in advancing preservation in Rhode Island.
