Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island

Responding to the needs of over 80 stewards of Rhode Island's historic sites, Preserve Rhode Island created the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island, a network of colleagues representing historic sites throughout Rhode Island who share common challenges in sustaining historic sites that are open to the public.  Coggeshall Farm, Bristol

The preservation of historic structures presents a stewardship and fundraising challenge for organizations that have little staff or are operated entirely by volunteers.   Many historic sites operate entirely independently, unaware of the ventures of neighboring sites, even as they face similar challenges with visitation, funding, programming and staffing.  The goal of this Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island is to bring together stewards of historic sites from around the state and to encourage cross-promotion, the sharing of resources, and the exchange of ideas to advance the sustainability of Rhode Island's historic structures and unique places.

Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, LincolnSince 2007 the HSCRI has grown and is currently 50 members strong!  If your organization owns or operates an historic site that is open to the public and would like to participate in the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island please contact Susanna Prull at 401.272.5101 or by email for more information. Visit the HSCRI members in your community or explore another region!

Preserve Rhode Island has presented several programs to benefit the HSCRI in 2008.  To learn more please visit Workshops & Events.

To encourage communication between HSCRI members, Preserve Rhode Island has created an email-based HSCRI Listserv where members can email the entire HSCRI to ask questions, make comments, or post notices about events or activities happening at their historic sites.  The listserv is intented to help the HSCRI engage in quick, easy "conversations" about their questions, thoughts, resources, and activities.  The listserv also gives Preserve Rhode Island an opportunity to keep members up-to-date on HSCRI activities.  If your organization is interested in joining the HSCRI listserv please email Susanna Prull or call 272-5101.
