Common Sense Preservation Web Portal
The Collaboration for Common Sense Preservation
NEW Web Portal
The Collaboration for Common Sense Preservation evolved from a plan by Preserve Rhode Island and Historic New England to offer hands on workshops in Rhode Island for owners of historic homes. In order to minimize overlap of programs and maximize the value of information and presenters, Newport Restoration Foundation and the Providence Revolving Fund were invited on board. Together the four organizations developed a
methodology for the workshops - to focus on common sense and affordable means of accomplishing needed work; to keep the workshops out of lecture environments and make every attempt to locate them in historic homes where attendees can make connections with actual buildings; and to find a way to simplify access to information and enable homeowners to continue learning and absorbing the information discussed at the workshops.
This final bit resulted in the creation of this Common Sense Preservation Web Portal. Funded by a grant from the RI Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission and Preserve America, this web portal provides a centralized place for workshop attendees to get PDFs of information discussed by workshop presenters and a place where they can continue seeking information in the form of annotated web links. The annotated links are intended to help guide users towards resources that have been vetted by individuals familiar with the content and keep users focused on information that is appropriate to the housing stock and climate situations of Rhode Island and the greater New England region.
This Portal is not just a resource for our workshop attendees - it is accessible to everyone. Check it out at www.commonsensepreservation.org!
