2019 Lippitt House Artist Collaboration

Preserve Rhode Island’s Lippitt House Museum welcomes artists to apply for the opportunity to create a new work, inspired by the stories, history, architecture and design of the house at 199 Hope Street in Providence.  By examining its location, both historically and geographically, it is our hope that the resulting installation, happening, or exhibit will invite new ways of looking at or experiencing the house. Participating artists will engage with original collections, archives, historians, curators and staff to develop the final product. Past collaborative works have included sculpture, installations, and theater-based projects.

The selected artist(s) will work with Lippitt House Museum staff to develop a project proposal that will be submitted for grant funding January 2019.  The end product will then be part of Year of The City, “a Providence-wide project asking participants to explore the unseen stories behind the city’s visible surface,” and will be available for public viewing during part or all of the Museum’s 2019 open season of May through October.

Applications are due by 11:59 pm on Monday, October 8, 2018 and must include an artist statement, exhibition history and portfolio or equivalent records and work examples. Rhode Island and Southern New England-based artists are encouraged to apply.
