Sunday, September 29, 2013
Weekapaug Inn, Westerly, RI
Held at the historic Weekapaug Inn located on Quonochontaug Pond in Westerly, the 2013 RI Preservation Celebration & Rhody Awards honored a diverse collection of people and projects from around the state. In addition, it featured a special celebration of the return of RI's Historic Tax Credit with representatives of the coalition boxing their way up the aisles to the Rocky theme song! Check out our Facebook page for event photos.
Coalition member Karen Jessup, Interim Executive Director for the Providence Preservation Society commented,
"What a terrific celebration we had at the Rhody Awards. The event reminds me yet again that it's critical preservationists celebrate our successes together and continually widen our circle of friends, that our work will never be done because preservation and advocacy are year 'round efforts, and that preservationists DO have a sense of humor. Way to go, PRI and RIHPHC!"
The event featured remarks by Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, whose office won an award for their work on the RI 110 Salt Pond archeological site; Representative Jay O'Grady, who spearheaded the RI House bill for Historic Tax Credits; and Jonathan Stevens, who represented Governor Lincoln Chafee. It also included an announcement about the Statewide Preservation Conference which will be held in Warren in 2014.
